A Note From Jason

Jason’s son Gunnar celebrating his February 14th birthday.

Jason’s son Gunnar celebrating his February 14th birthday.

Hello everyone,

Happy February! It may be brutally cold out there, but at least we are getting more sunlight as the days go on. Spring will be here before we know it. With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, my home will soon be filled with presents and cake. We’ll be celebrating my son Gunnar’s 6th birthday. Where does the time go?

This month’s blog is a little different in an exciting way. Our guest blogger picked her favorite items by using the virtual tour feature on our website. By doing so, she was able to select from both our Watertown and Beverly showrooms. As we reflect on the ways that we have needed to pivot since the start of the pandemic, we are proud of the new initiatives we’ve implemented to enhance our customer experience and accommodate various shopping approaches, including the rollout of the virtual tour, Zoom appointments, and the online wishlist. Now our clients have the opportunity to view displays and choose items from the comfort of their own home!

Without further ado, we’re happy to introduce our February Showroom Favorites blogger: Jessica Chabot. Jessica has over 20 years in the construction and design industry. A graduate of the Boston Architectural College, Jess started her design career as a kitchen and bath designer and then spent eight years with a custom residential construction company. Currently, she is applying all of her experience and expertise as Senior Designer at Katie Rosenfeld and Company. She works with the team to create and execute high-end interiors. Jess lives in the burbs with her husband and two daughters. When she isn’t using her magic design wand to make people’s dreams come true, she volunteers as the president of the New England IFDA chapter and sits on her town’s Planning Board. We are thrilled to share her favorites with you.

Wishing you all a warm and loving February.

STONE FOREST CALMA MARBLE SOAKING TUB

How can you not be obsessed with Stone Forest’s Calma marble soaking tub? With its stunning veining, the tub presents an “old-world” feel with a modern look. It would pair nicely with almost any style and would be a beautiful focal point in a bathroom.

ROHL ELONGATED HIGH GLOSS MAHOGANY TOILET SEAT

Often an overlooked part of a bathroom, I am thrilled to see wood toilet seats making a comeback. This particular mahogany piece from Rohl adds a level of formality to the space. Apart from a design standpoint, they are also much more comfortable to sit on.

DXV RANDALL WIDESPREAD BATHROOM FAUCET WITH CROSS HANDLES

Everyone knows brass is back. Oftentimes, however, clients can be fearful of living finishes — they shouldn’t be! There is something charming about your faucet having “lived.

HOUSE OF ROHL SHAWS CLASSIC SHAKER FARMHOUSE APRON FRONT FIRECLAY KITCHEN SINK

The tried and true “farm sink” is a classic. House of Rohl is the industry standard for this style of sink. The Shaws Classic Shaker Farmhouse Fireclay piece is a must-have.

HOUSE OF ROHL PERRIN & ROWE EDWARDIAN ERA OVAL THERMOSTATIC TRIM PLATE WITH VOLUME CONTROL

IN POLISHED CHROME

My love for House of Rohl pieces continues with this Perrin & Rowe Edwardian Era selection. Right now, I’m really into shower trims that have an all-in-one backplate for both the volume control and thermostatic valve. You can’t go wrong with this streamlined look — and may I mention – less to clean!

A Note From Jason

Happy New Year!

An exciting renovation is underway at our Beverly showroom.

We did it — we officially made it through 2020. Despite all of the challenges we endured and the ever-changing retail environment, we’ve worked hard to come out on the other side stronger and more resilient than ever. Looking forward, I feel hopeful for the future and I am cautiously optimistic about what this next chapter has in store for us.

Here at Designer Bath, we’re saying out with the old and in with the new as we kick off the year with an exciting renovation of our Beverly showroom. We always strive to display current trends as well as traditional favorites. The pandemic seemed to inspire many people to analyze their living spaces and ask if it was serving them effectively and creating joy. We went through a similar process and came up with some ways to freshen our space, and make it more  resourceful for clients. Stay tuned for some behind-the-scenes footage of our transformation. Be sure to follow our social media pages on Facebook and Instagram to stay up to date.

I wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t comment on the events that transpired at the Capitol Building last week.  What comes up for me is the importance of leadership and the role we as leaders play to foster kindness and make a difference. I think about it every day. How can I make a difference for those with whom I come in contact?  How can I make a difference for those in my community?  How can I spread warmth and love?  This is my personal mission. From my perspective, leadership is a privilege, a gift and an honor.

I’m thrilled to introduce our first guest blogger of 2021: Jill Litner Kaplan. Jill has been involved in the world of design for 30 years and is a leader in the Boston design community. Her work has been published in magazines and was most recently featured in the book New England Modern. Her firm has managed countless comprehensive interior design projects involving significant construction, and they have worked with architects and builders throughout New England to execute the needs of their projects. Jill has a natural passion for fashion, loves fine fabrics and knows how to layer patterns in a way that is visually stimulating and dynamic with no detail spared. Jill truly understands how to create an environment that is a unique expression of her clients: one that addresses their personal style and preferences, while at the same time, infusing it with her own well-honed taste and sense of energy.
Wishing you a safe and happy 2021!

Best,

DORNBRACHT IMO LAVATORY MIXER IN PLATINUM MATTE

+

MADELI ESTATE SAPPHIRE FREE STANDING CABINET

A faucet is the first decision you make when designing a master bathroom. In this case, I selected the Dornbracht IMO in a platinum matte finish. A truly classic piece, it boasts both linear and curved elements. The quality of the faucet is what sets the tone for this space with its timeless elegance and bold presence.

The cabinet conveys both strong and delicate messages. The versatile sapphire color can appeal to both men and women in a master bathroom. It would look most spectacular with a marble mosaic floor. The chrome legs then would reveal the beautiful flooring.

DORNBRACHT CONCEALED THERMOSTAT WITH THREE-WAY VOLUME CONTROL IN POLISHED CHROME

The Dornbracht Concealed Thermostat proves that plumbing can be considered jewelry for your shower. It’s an ingenious way to organize the valves onto one backplate — a seamless integration that is very appealing to the eye.

JACLO 16″ X 16″ SQUARE RAIN MACHINE IN POLISHED CHROME

The Jaclo 16” x 16” Rain Machine is a wonderful statement from both a design and functionality perspective. It’s able to provide a magnificent shower experience. The straight, linear shape provides a balance to the large scale of the piece to create a subtle yet impactful focal point for your shower.

BAINULTRA VIBE FREESTANDING SOAKER TUB IN WHITE

I am a huge fan of BainUltra. To me, they stand for high quality and superb design detail. This design is so sleek with its straight edge and gentle curved detail on each of the four sides. It’s simply a masterpiece and adds an element of luxury and relaxation for your bathroom.

DORNBRACHT CL.1 SINGLE-LEVER TUB MIXER IN PLATINUM MATTE

I absolutely love this Dornbracht tub mixer because of its sculptural presence when placed next to a freestanding bathtub. The combination of a statuesque bathtub paired with a piece of gleaming hardware creates a dramatic perspective.

David Cohen’s Showroom Favorites — December 2020

A Note From Jason

Happy December!

We’ll be accepting donations for our annual Toys for Tots campaign through Friday, December 11th. Stop by either of our showrooms or our Gloucester location to drop off unwrapped gifts.

We’ve officially made it to the end of 2020. This year has tested us and our ability to withstand change. Our business has implemented protocols to keep our staff and clients safe and we have overcome challenges that have been thrown our way. We’ve adapted, we’ve sacrificed, but most importantly, we’ve been given this time to step back and focus on what’s important in life — our family, our health, our lives. I truly believe we will come out of this stronger and more compassionate than ever.

Looking back on this roller coaster year, I am looking for ways to elevate the positive points. Last month as we moved into Thanksgiving, our employees had the opportunity to highlight what they are most thankful for this season. You can take a look at both Part One and Part Two on our Instagram. I couldn’t be more grateful for this Designer Bath and Salem Plumbing Supply family — the team that continues to keep this business thriving after 75 years.

If you’re anything like me, you’re probably looking forward to keeping it simple this holiday season. We were lucky enough to host a virtual event with Chef Shelby and The Galley last month to demonstrate how to make your holiday meal more festive and less stressful. Head over to our website to view the video. For my family in particular, the adults have decided to donate to charity in lieu of exchanging gifts this year. We feel very fortunate that Designer Bath was deemed an essential business during this time. We have been able to keep our doors open, and continue to work with our valued clients and friends. I look forward to welcoming in a new year, with new opportunities, and many new appreciations.

Now without further ado, I am happy to introduce our final guest blogger of the year. This month’s guest is none other than David Cohen, Principal and Owner of Hampden Design. David, a licensed Construction Supervisor and Building Inspector, grew up always building, faceting, tinkering, and taking things apart. Priding himself on being a great listener to both the client and the home, he prioritizes respect, hard work, and open communication throughout the design and construction process. Since its inception, Hampden Design + Construction has earned several notable distinctions, most recently being named “Best Custom Home Design/Build 2020” by Boston Home Magazine. We couldn’t be happier to share his favorites with you.

Wishing you a happy and healthy holiday season.

Best,

David Cohen's Showroom Favorites December 2020

The overall theme for my showroom selections was a natural, industrial vibe. I gravitated towards wooded elements, clean lines, and even a small mix of contemporary styles.

THE GALLEY IDEAL WORKSTATION

With Eight Tool Culinary Kit In Natural Golden Bamboo

I was immediately drawn to The Galley Ideal Workstation for its multifunctionality. People tend to cook and prep on their kitchen island, leaving a mess everywhere. The Galley solves this issue by streamlining the process and providing substantial space for any cooking-related task. That’s why I particularly loved the 6-foot length — you can cut, wash, drain, and clean in this workspace.

From a design perspective, it’s also very sleek and clean. The bamboo wood adds a natural element as opposed to man-made plastic material. The Galley sink has it all — function, feel, and efficiency.

CALIFORNIA FAUCETS CORSANO CULINARY PULL-OUT KITCHEN FAUCET

Ultra Stainless Steel

The California Faucets Corsano Pull-Out kitchen faucet is the ultimate complement to The Galley sink. With its sleek industrial feel and simple design, it may not be the loudest piece in the room, but it truly makes a difference. The faucet doesn’t take away from the esthetic and function of the sink — it pairs quite nicely.

WETSTYLE BE COLLECTION FREESTANDING SOAKER TUB

With Surround Wood Shelf In Walnut Natural

The WetStyle freestanding tub, with its wooden surround, provides for a calm, serene moment — something that’s much needed these days. In a functional sense, it also gives you space to put candles, wines, salts, and anything else to add to your relaxing bath experience.

CROSSWATER LONDON UNION FLOOR-MOUNT TUB FILLER

In Polished Chrome

This Crosswater London tub filler has a heaviness to it that pairs well with the freestanding tub from WetStyle. When you’re taking a bath, you want something to ground you to the earth. The knobs invoke an industrial aesthetic thus creating a perfect complement to the natural vibe of the tub.

BRIZO LITZE CEILING MOUNT PENDANT RAINCAN SHOWERHEAD

In Polished Chrome

This Brizo Pendant showerhead is sure to make your guests do a double-take. Rainheads tend to be a very flat, 2-dimensional experience. This showerhead is very 3-dimensional with its spout at different heights — looking more like a decorative fixture than a traditional rainhead. It’s a unique, one-of-a-kind look that adds a touch of contemporary vibe to your space.

David Boronkay’s Showroom Favorites — November 2020

A Note From Jason

Greetings and happy November!

Thanksgiving has always been a time to give thanks, but this year is different — many of us will miss celebrating the holiday with annual traditions. I believe there is the potential for this year to be even more special. We will probably have a smaller meal with less people, but we may take the opportunity to devise new ways to connect which will make it truly memorable. Just being present with each other is something to be cherished, whether it’s in-person or via a ZOOM call.

Speaking of thankfulness, I do want to express our appreciation for those who voted for us for Best of Northshore Home! We’re honored to be named 2020’s Best of Bath Fixtures & Fittings in both the Editors’ Choice and Readers’ Choice categories, as well as Best of Kitchen Fixtures & Fittings by Readers’ Choice. We are proud that we received these prestigious designations and are immensely grateful for all of our valued customers.

Finally, I’m excited to introduce our November guest blogger David Boronkay, Principal of Slocum Hall Design Group. David’s passion began at a young age when his mother would drive him around his hometown to survey the progress of new homes being built. His passion followed him into adulthood and he loves the process of working with clients to realize their dreams. For him, a home is a person’s most personal possession, and being trusted with the task of creating a unique space that speaks to their aesthetic and functional requirements is incredibly rewarding. We are happy to share his favorite showroom picks with you.

Wishing you a happy and warm November!

Best,

TOTO MH CONNECT+ WALL MOUNTED TOILET AND WASHLET IN COTTON WHITE

I am a huge fan of wall-hung toilets in general, both from aesthetic and cleanability perspectives. In-keeping with my affinity for cleanliness, the Toto Washlet seat is one of the best investments anyone can make for their bathroom. I have had one for years, and highly recommend them to anyone willing to spend the extra money. As my Mom used to say, “Cleanliness is next to godliness” – and why shouldn’t that apply to your bum too?

DORNBRACHT BALANCE MODULES BIG RAIN PANEL IN POLISHED STAINLESS STEEL

I love the clean lines of this ceiling-mounted rain panel. Not only is it attractive in its simplicity, but it feels great to stand under it and enjoy the sensation of a warm deluge of water.

LACAVA AQUASEI WALL MOUNT VANITY WITH AQUAQUATTRO LAVATORY VANITY TOP AND MEDICINE CABINET IN NATURAL WALNUT

The warmth of natural wood tones in a bathroom can help elevate a space from ordinary to extraordinary. Once again, I always gravitate towards wall-mounted objects in bathrooms for ease of cleaning, but it also can help a tight space feel more generously proportioned.

STONE FOREST BORDEAUX VANITY TOP IN CARRERA MARBLE WITH PALMER LEG SYSTEM IN POLISHED NICKEL

The elegance and simplicity of this marble console sink works beautifully in a transitional bathroom space. The ability to pair it with different legs and faucets offers customization and can make the piece feel more traditional or more modern.

BAIN ULTRA EVANESCENCE OVAL THERMOMASSEUR FREE STANDING TUB

Free-standing soaking tubs have been on-trend for several years now, and can help elevate the aesthetic of a bathroom. This Bain Ultra tub takes things to the next level with the addition of heated air jets – making it the perfect compromise for those who want the comfort of a jetted tub, while preferring the look of a free-standing soaker.

Patrick Planeta’s Showroom Favorites — October 2020

A Note From Jason

Happy October!

This time of year is one of my favorites in New England. From the beautiful foliage to the cooler days, there is so much to love about this season.

The Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston (BRAGB) will be announcing the PRISM winners during a “virtual” presentation later this Fall.

As we head into fall, we’re excited to launch our series featuring tips and tricks on preparing your home for the upcoming cooler months. We’ll be highlighting some great advice from local builders, including Premier Builders and Covenant LLC. Be sure to follow us on Instagram and like us on Facebook for the latest!

We have always been involved with industry trade associations. We support their efforts to create a community and elevate the member organizations through networking and educational opportunities. EM NARI (Eastern Mass Chapter of the National Assoc for the Remodeling Industry) recently hosted their Contractor of the Year (CotY) Awards and they recognized some Designer Bath clients as award winners! Watch the full ceremony on their Facebook page. Kudos to EM NARI for doing a successful pandemic pivot and producing an event that was 100% virtual this year. In other awards news, the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston (BRAGB) will be announcing the PRISM winners during a “virtual” presentation in early November. BRAGB is planning to host an online networking forum prior to the event’s kick-off in place of the fabulous cocktail party that usually takes place before the ceremony.

For October’s blog, Patrick Planeta of Planeta Design Group selected his five favorite items to share with our audience. He didn’t even have to come in to one of our showrooms since he has visited frequently and knew right away what he would choose. Patrick began his design career at one of Boston’s premier architecture and design firms. His quick rise to success soon led him to open Planeta Design Group in 2007. In 2010, he was named one of New England Home’s “5 Under 40,” recognizing him as “the hottest emerging talent in residential design in New England.” Today, his work is featured in national design publications including Elle Décor. One of his recent projects was featured on the cover of the latest Boston Home Magazine and his stunning transformations are making an impact throughout Boston. We are excited to share his showroom favorites with you.

Wishing you a fantastic October!

Patrick Planeta's Showroom Favorites October 2020

When choosing my favorite pieces from the Designer Bath showroom, I focused on mindful moments. We are leading very busy lives today. At times, it feels like it’s never been so stressful. So why not have pieces that ground you and give you a sense of calm? They serve as beautiful reminders to slow down, breathe, and enjoy the simple pleasures of life.

STONE FOREST CALMA BATHTUB

The Stone Forest Calma freestanding bathtub is a star. You’ve perhaps seen it in various design magazines. I remember when I first saw this piece years ago and it continues to excite me today. That’s what makes it so magnificent. This is a timeless statement piece that will never go out of style.

There’s something that resonates so deeply with me when touching this tub. It’s a sensual ritual — when it fills with hot water, you can feel the stone’s warmth. A bath is so indulgent, especially nowadays with everyone’s busy and stressful lives. This piece creates the opportunity for a special, serene moment.

THG DEAN COLLECTION RIM MOUNTED 3-HOLE BASIN MIXER

I’ve used THG for years. They are another company that prides themselves in timeless design. The polished chrome finish is exquisite and has a deep luster that is one of the signature elements of this line. A lot of my design work is high detail, so this perfectly fits the aesthetic of what we do.

This extent of detail goes above and beyond. Even when you touch the handle, you’ll feel that it’s not just a flat piece underneath. It’s in fact a semi-circle half round that gives a sense of tactility to the piece. It’s quite amazing the level of thought that went into the ergonomics integrated into the design of this piece.

THG ANOA BLACK HORN COLLECTION SINGLE LEVER BASIN MIXER

This faucet from THG is definitely a head-turner. At first, you may think that the lever is a piece of black rubber, but when the light shines on it or you touch it, you realize it’s composed of all-natural buffed horn. It’s the “cherry on top” so to speak. This is done in such a beautiful and well-received way.

THG also has several metal finishes choices. It’s almost like picking out a custom interior of a car. You can choose exactly what you want from what feels like an entire book of metal chips. These endless finish options create a piece that is incredibly versatile.

CROSSWATER LONDON PATINATO PETITE BACK-TO-WALL BATHTUB

We’re using this piece in a project with several children’s bathrooms. Many people tend to avoid freestanding tubs for kids because it can be a tough predicament when it comes to cleaning. That’s why this back-to-wall piece is so great. I love how it has a floating tub “look”, but it goes against a wall which helps the cleaning process. It proves you can have the elegance of a freestanding tub without having to sacrifice practicality — because let’s be honest, kids can be messy!

LINKASINK RECTANGULAR BAR SINK WITH PB GRATE

Mixed metals are an absolute favorite of mine. I always say metals never match. When you mix materials of quality, I believe it makes a much more interesting design project.

I love interiors that slowly unfold so it’s not all given away up front when you enter. It can be a surprise to you. I think it would be a beautiful treat to wash your hands or vegetables in the sink and then look down at a sparkling sink staring back at you. It’s like a piece of jewelry for the counter.

This is the epitome of slowing down and enjoying the simple, little delights of life. It’s not just another faucet or sink — it’s a centerpoint of a pleasurable environment where you want to spend your time.

Musings by Mindy

Fall 2020

Mindy Sevinor

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It would be an understatement to say that a lot has changed since my last blog in March. While this year has brought many new obstacles and challenges, I think many of us have built stronger relationships during this pandemic — with our friends, our family, with nature — and most importantly for this blog post: with our homes.

Our homes have become more than just the places where we dwell. They’ve become places where we can spend more quality time building memories with our families. They’ve become virtual classrooms and jungle gyms for our kids. They’ve become our home offices, our quiet sanctuaries, our much needed refuges.

Here at Designer Bath, our clients are fostering a newfound gratitude for where they live. Their homes are becoming more of a priority and getting the attention they deserve: ranging from full renos to finding that perfect light fixture or faucet to finally creating the dream bathroom or kitchen they have always wanted. Homeowners are focused on making their living space a place that’s more functional and enjoyable for their whole family. We are truly proud to have the opportunity to help people during a time when they need it the most.

Rolling into fall, we’re looking forward to expanding our showroom offerings. This includes the addition of one of the most-anticipated kitchen lines (and one of my personal favorites): Waterstone Faucets. Their wheel pulldown faucets are super unique and different — there really isn’t anything else like it.

I am so happy I can offer this fall edition of Musings by Mindy to bring some positivity and inspiration into your home. So every time you wake up and turn on your new faucet, you have a greater sense of appreciation for your home. Stay safe — we’re all in this together.

All my best,

Mindy Sevinor
Showroom Brand Manager

New In The Showroom

VENDOR: WATERSTONE WHEEL PULLDOWN FAUCET

Waterstone is reinventing the wheel with their latest pulldown faucet. This innovative design is an anomaly — it is sure to stop your guests in their tracks.

Inspired by the wheel of a ship, the pre-rinse spray arm is spring-loaded and can reach all areas of the sink. Versatile, elegant, and functional, the faucet is available in an amazing 32 finishes. This piece will be the talk of the kitchen.

PRODUCT: CALIFORNIA FAUCETS ARCHED RAIN SHOWERHEAD

California Faucets does it again! Their arched rain showerhead creates a unique, funnel effect adding a touch of luxury to the bathroom. There is nothing else like this on the market. Other thin showerheads can be a bit basic — this one is structural and sleek. Better yet, it’s offered in 28 different finishes.

Trendspotting

TREND: SPECIALTY FINISHES – VANITY CABINETRY

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — specialty finishes are what’s hot. Mixed or matte black, they add elegance and personality to a space. This is especially true when it comes to vanity cabinetry. By utilizing one of the many shades of brass, matte black, or a combination of the two, a whole new level of character and personalization is added to the décor. We have now seen this shift carry over into other categories, such as vanities. Not only are we seeing mixed finishes, but now we are also seeing the integration of mixed materials as well.

For instance, the Lacava wall-mounted vanity (left image) shows how finishes can absolutely pop when paired with a bright, white base. Furniture Guild is a great example of mixing metals with wood (right image). While simple in design, it allows room for the finishes to shine. The literal definition of simple but powerful.

A Note From Jason

Jason and his family enjoyed their last trip of the summer!

Jason and his family enjoyed their last trip of the summer!

Happy September, everyone!

I hope you had a fantastic Labor Day weekend. It was great to squeeze in some final vacation days before the end of summer. This year has been a whirlwind. I feel that it’s especially important to take some time off to relax, rejuvenate, and recover. I received feedback from our team that they needed a break from the craziness of conducting business in the midst of a pandemic. We decided to give everyone an extra-long holiday weekend so that they had the opportunity to recharge. We will definitely benefit from a renewed sense of energy for the start of the school year.

We’ll be facing additional challenges as students return to the classroom — most of whom will be attending virtually. Both adults and their children are spending more time at home than ever before. Boston Magazine recently wrote a great article on how Covid19 has people reevaluating the design and functionality of their living environments. Whether that means converting your kitchen to an entertainment center with a Galley Workstation sink or upgrading to a double vanity in your master bathroom, now is the perfect time to focus on what will make your space work better, making life easier for you and your family. Need even more inspiration? Stay tuned for our upcoming Instagram giveaway where you could win a signed copy of Elements of Family Style: Elegant Spaces for Everyday Life by Erin Gates!

Speaking of the virtual world, Designer Bath is thrilled to announce the launch of our online store. Simply click the “Shop Now” button on our website’s home page and you’ll be able to peruse our selection of products. You can create wish lists and/or purchase items. You’ll notice that we have a list of categories on the left-hand side of the page where you can browse through toilets, tubs, faucets, and more. There’s even an “Under $100” category!

It’s my pleasure to introduce our guest blogger for this month, Deborah Berger. After a career in advertising in NYC, Deb moved to Massachusetts and started her successful Boston-based design firm, Maven Design. She joined forces with Lauren Hamilton in 2019 to create AUGUST INTERIORS. Together, Deb and Lauren embrace livable sophistication and lightheartedness in all of their work. We are glad to share Deb’s favorite pieces from our showroom.

Wishing you all a fantastic month!

CROSSWATER BALTHAZAR TUB

WITH POLISHED STAINLESS EXTERIOR

Nothing says classic elegance and charm like a free-standing tub. This generously sized piece is wrapped in polished stainless steel, giving it a sense of sophistication. I would place it on top of a marble mosaic floor to give it a high contrast impact.

STONE FOREST ONYX WABI PURPLE SINK

I will never forget when I first saw purple onyx used as a counter material years ago when I was in South Beach, Miami. It was absolutely captivating. I imagine installing this sink in an all-white bathroom for a refined color moment!

FRANZ VIEGENER INDUSTRIAL CHIC WIDESPREAD LAVATORY FAUCET

At August Interiors, we seek lightheartedness and whimsy in just the right places — and that is shown here with this piece from Franz Viegener. The red handles on this gorgeous faucet remind me of a backyard hose or an industrial lab. I’d love to see it in a children’s bathroom or a basement bar. Also, the handles can be modified to come in other colors (think soft pink or navy blue)!

VOGUE COMBI ELECTRIC TOWEL WARMER

WITH INTEGRATED SHELF

A well-designed interior does not ignore a single detail. This heated towel rack is an example of form and function working together beautifully. With the warmest of days behind us this season, we’ll be needing toasty towels soon. It’s a luxurious accessory for special bathrooms.

AFINA RADIANCE VENETIAN SINGLE DOOR MEDICINE CABINET

In hard-working, elegant bathrooms, mirrors should be part of design development right from the start — not just a decorative element added at the end. This piece feels to me like a finely detailed mirror at its core, with the built-in medicine cabinet as a subtle surprise. At first glance, you would not suspect that it does double duty.

STONE FOREST VENTUS BATH SINK

Lori:

The bold presence of the Stone Forest Ventus Bath Sink immediately caught my eye. The piece has substantial presence, but still maintains a comfortable, relaxed feel from the combination of the natural materials used.

It also presents great practicality with the extra storage space for towels, linen, bath tissue, etc. The side rail can even become a towel bar. This particular piece is able to accommodate all that you’d want in a powder room, but can’t always get in a powder room!

Nicole:

We based many of our selections on this piece. I’m drawn to its masculine feel. Even with its sharp lines, it remains elegant and still has ample space between the shelving. Though it’s not mounted on the wall, it doesn’t take up too much space.

CALIFORNIA FAUCETS VESSEL LAVATORY FAUCET

AGED BRASS FINISH

Lori:

This faucet from California Faucets works flawlessly with the industrial legs of the Stone Forest vanity. They really complement each other well.

Nicole:

With the nature of the Stone Forest sink, we needed to choose a wall mounted faucet. This particular piece from California Faucets is very similar to the detailing on the stabilizing bar connecting the vanity to the wall. The escutcheon is classic and offers a sense of simplicity.

FAIRMONT DESIGNS REFLECTIONS METAL FRAME MIRROR

MATTE BLACK

Lori:

When looking straight at the mirror, it looks paper thin. However, when you look from the side, you see the depth. Its frame is about an inch and a half deep. Stylistically, it plays well off of the Stone Forest sink top which has thick lines that only appear thick from one angle. Looking down from above, the sink top looks thin.

Nicole:

The mirror is similar to the vanity in that it has clean lines and minimal detailing. It also has an industrial, masculine feel — similar to that of the vanity. Yet it presents a juxtaposition with its thin frame which adds a touch of delicacy.

DXV COSSU ONE-PIECE ELONGATED TOILET

Lori:

What I truly love about this toilet is that you don’t see the inner workings. The simplicity keeps with the overall theme of the room.

Nicole:

This piece is sleek with a contemporary feel. It also makes cleaning effortless which is an added benefit when it comes to a powder room!

KARTNERS SOFIA COLLECTION TISSUE HOLDER

Lori:

This tissue holder from Kartners finishes out the suite. It carries through the feel and flavor of the main furniture piece. You’re also able to slide the toilet paper on and off providing a sense of ease.

Nicole:

This Sofia Collection tissue holder continues the contemporary theme that was established with the toilet. It even has a similar circular look to the California Faucet piece with very little detailing. This piece finishes out the room with its simplicity and minimalism.

Allison Iantoscas Showroom Favorites July 2020

Designer Bath is so unique for their thoughtful and intentional selection of the items in their showroom. What I love about our partnership is that I can just know that all of their products are deliberately curated at a high level of detail and so will always meet the goals of our projects. I could not have had more fun selecting a few of my “showroom favs”. Each, I hope, represents a classic beauty, a sensibleness, and a bit of whimsy for when it’s called for. Designer Bath, you so get us!

STONE FOREST ROMAN CARRARA MARBLE BATHTUB

When I think about our clients having to make endless decisions, there’s always a couple of factors at play which oftentimes conflict. While trying to be eco-friendly, health-conscious, and avoiding off-gassing, you’re also being asked to contend with a mediocre product in order to get the reassurance that it is safe and healthy.

That’s where this piece emerges as an anomaly. Completely organic with a gorgeous aesthetic, you don’t have to think for a second if it’s going to be unsafe in your home. It’s entirely in its natural form, spectacularly beautiful, and worry-free. I admire this tub for its ability to alleviate all of a homeowner’s concerns and still be a stunning piece of craftsmanship.

GRAFF TERRA WIDESPREAD LAVATORY FAUCET

Quality? Outstanding. Finish? Perfection. Cost? About a third.

So often we have this assumption that a beautiful piece comes with a high price tag. There is a constant dance between quality and cost. That’s why it’s crucial to offer an alternative that is also reasonably priced. I love when budget doesn’t have to win over substance. This Graff faucet is the perfect balance.

UTTERMOST HERLEVA GOLD OVAL MIRROR

You have to have a little glam sometimes. This Uttermost Herleva oval mirror is my go-to “safe” glam. A current “aged” gold/brass finish with a simple style — a lot, but not too much, all at the same time. Refined and adaptable, the mirror reflects the very same qualities as one who might look into it.

EMTEK PASSAGE OVAL ROSETTE HAMPTON KNOB

Timeless — just like we hope to be. Whatever genre you seek to live in, we want it represented with enduring class and perfection. To me, this knob says it all with way less than a thousand words. Class, richness, solidity. It is so complex, yet so simple.

What’s paramount about hardware is its subtlety. If you walk into a home that has this hardware, it signals on some subconscious level the beauty of the home. That’s what we want in all of our projects.

KARTNERS ROUND GRAB BAR

Years ago, safety was a trade-off to elegance. We didn’t like asking our clients to make that compromise. We no longer have to pick an unsatisfying solution! The Kartners round grab bar is the perfect example of this — strong and reliable, without sticking out as an extraneous add-on. It is something so beautiful and refined without oddly standing out.

I love that Designer Bath offers this because they know that it matters. They know people shouldn’t be stuck with these garish, huge accessories in their bathroom. That’s not what people want. People want safety without sacrificing style.

Designer Bath is now open Monday – Saturday by appointment!  It’s exciting to see friendly faces back in our showrooms.  We have missed interacting with our clients in person.  While we are meeting people with safety measures in place, I can tell you there is still a lot of laughing, fun being had and important work getting done.  With our customers returning to our stores and the warm temperatures returning outside, my heart is happy.  Please visit our website for details on making an appointment at Designer Bath with our new protocols in place.

Father’s Day is coming up! Being a dad of 5 and 7-year-old boys has been the most important job of my life and brings me so much pride and joy. To all the dads out there, wishing you an amazing day.  And a BIG thank you to my dad for all you’ve done for me.  You’ve been an inspiration to me and I work hard to have an equally meaningful life.  Thank you for being a great role model.  As we celebrate 75 years in our family’s business, I am proud to carry on our family tradition.  Thank you, dad, for the opportunity.  And to all our loyal customers, staff and families, this couldn’t have been possible without your support. Thank you!

Again, we are truly thankful for you — our customers. If you have worked with us (or currently work with us), we would love to hear from you. We invite you to write a Google review detailing your experiences and thoughts on our business. We appreciate any and all feedback.

Without further ado, we would like to introduce this month’s Showroom Favorites blogger. We had the pleasure of having Matt Simitis of Curl Simitis architecture + design virtually visit our Watertown showroom to choose his favorite pieces. Matt is well-versed in residential and small commercial design work, with over 15 years of experience. A Massachusetts native, he appreciates not only the state’s rich design heritage, but also its cutting-edge spirit. We couldn’t be more excited to share his favorites with you.

Wishing you a terrific June!

Matt Simitis Showroom Favorites June 2020

When selecting my five favorite pieces at Designer Bath, I kept in mind the recent renovation of my home. After years of helping others with decision making for their homes, it was my turn to dive in and decide what styles, products, and colors I wanted to have in my personal space. It was an interesting and enjoyable experience, as I discovered new options that I previously would not have chosen. Taking on the challenges of maximizing space and increasing its efficiency — these pieces are truly problem solvers.

GRAFF CONTEMPORARY BRIDGE FAUCET WITH SIDE SPRAY

What instantly drew me to this piece from GRAFF is the side spray. These days, pullout sprays seem to be a bit ubiquitous – and for good reason, as they are highly efficient and practical. However, the spout pullout sprays tend to be bigger and bulkier, and I loved how separating the two allowed the faucet to be sleek and minimal. An added benefit is that the side spray independently functions with its own controls for volume and temperature – it really hit all the marks for me.

GROHE CHILLED & SPARKLING WATER SYSTEM

Another way I looked at clearing the counter was by reducing the objects that needed space there. At my home, we drink an abundance of sparkling water. Previously, we had a Sodastream carbonator that sat in a corner. We used it all the time, but it never really fit in.

The multifaceted Grohe sparkling water system is the perfect solution for this situation. It’s not as slender as some of the other faucet options we looked at, but it packs a lot into its size. We can use regular water for washing or cooking and then access both chilled or sparkling water with the turn of a knob. Functionally speaking, it ties everything in our wish list together in one fixture.

LACAVA LINEA VANITY WITH UNDERMOUNT PORCELAIN SINK

With two young children, we knew creating a master bathroom was a necessity. Given that space would be carved from an existing bedroom, we had to minimize the size and maximize its efficiency. When I came across this LACAVA vanity, it fit perfectly into our design plan and overall goals.

A double vanity was out of the question, but with a longer top, this single sink vanity offered dedicated counter space that is crucial in a master bath. What we loved, however, was the elegant way the frame was designed to create personal towel hanging at each end as well as the little bit of extra storage below. Just enough extra room for my wife and I to feel like we had our own personal space!

ROBERN UPLIFT CABINET WITH ELECTRIC NIGHT LIGHT AND DEFOGGER

The Robern Uplift cabinet was a crucial piece of our renovation. We knew we needed the storage space a medicine cabinet provides, but also desired a large mirror to help the space feel larger. Once we decided on a single basin, we also knew we wanted to avoid an unappealing hinge down the center of our view.

This cabinet is an ingenious solution to that problem. Functional, while crisp and modern looking, the mirror easily rises up from the bottom to expose the interior with no interruption of the glass. I also loved that we could leave it open just enough to reveal the bottom shelf, and have it act as a niche for everyday items.

GEBERIT SIGMA FLUSH ACTUATOR

In an effort to help a small space look and feel as open as possible, we gravitated to a wall-hung toilet. Typically, these come with a metal plated plate. Seeing that Geberit had a wide range of other optional finishes, I felt that the metal finish would interrupt the clean, light, feel we were going for in the room. This stunning white glass plate with chrome accents really jumped out as the perfect choice. With a high level of detail and materials that feel refined, not plasticy, we knew that we had found a fixture that helped tie together everything we were looking for from the room.
