A Note From Jason

2019 Gourmet Gala

Jason was thrilled to represent Designer Bath at the 2019 Gourmet Gala supporting the North Shore Medical Center’s Salem campus as well as the Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center in Danvers. Pictured above: Jason with Kiss 108’s Billy Costa!

Happy May!

We’ve made it through the April showers! It’s absolutely gorgeous outside — things are finally warming up and starting to bloom. Here at Designer Bath, we’re gearing up for a busy spring season of exciting events.

For starters, we are thrilled to have Boston-based designer Erin Gates coming to our Watertown showroom on May 15th. She’ll be here for an exclusive book signing of her latest publication, Elements of Family Style. The event is free, but make sure to register/RSVP via Eventbrite: http://bit.ly/ErinGatesBookSigning

This month we celebrated Mother’s Day — what better way to show your appreciation for Mom than by bringing her to one of our fabulous showrooms or surprising her with a new fixture or accessory that will elevate her kitchen or bathroom. Now, that will show her who’s the favorite! ;)

Recently, we had the pleasure of having the very talented designer Chris Brown visit our showroom and pick his favorites for this month’s blog. After studying architecture at Notre Dame and traveling throughout Europe for his studies, Chris worked in Boston for over a decade managing various projects from residential design and historic preservation to unique commercial and institutional renovations. He then founded b Architecture Studio in 2010. Chris brings an inimitable design sense paired with environmental consideration to his projects. We are so happy to share with you his favorite pieces from our showroom.

Wishing you a great month and a happy Mother’s Day!

GRAFF PHASE VESSEL LAVATORY FAUCET

The Phase vessel faucet from Graff is a stunning fixture in many ways, with beautiful lines and unique design features. The low flow swivel aerator is an ingenuous way to help save water and eliminate unnecessary splash.

STONE FOREST BEVELED ROUND SINK, CHISELED

What drew me to this very unique sink is that it looked like it was carved out of rock. It’s truly a conversation piece that is sure to make a statement in your bath.

WETSTYLE Z216 MIRROR

The eye catching tall proportions and beautiful natural wood finish play well with the stone vessel sink. These simple yet unique pieces are a great choice to add some drama to spaces that I often encounter in urban environments and tucked away powder rooms.

GRAFF PHASE M-SERIES STOP/VOLUME CONTROL VALVE TRIM WITH HANDLE

This piece stands out among the rest. Shower controls can become obtrusive in a space, distracting visual focus and just getting in the way. The Graff Phase M’s sleek design is an example that conquers challenges of both form and function.

BAINULTRA AMMA OVAL 7242 FREESTANDING TUB

Comfort and relaxation are the emotional vibes emanating from this beauty from Bain Ultra. With its inline heater maintaining the water temperature, you can soak for quite a while without the disruption of having to add more hot water (eco-friendly feature!). A little serenity in this hectic world is something we can all use.

Musings by Mindy

Mindy Sevinor

Hi Friends and Colleagues,

I’m excited to be joining you for the debut of our trade blog! Every few months, I’ll be waxing poetic and sharing some observations and insight (musings, if you will) from my experiences on the showroom floor and beyond.

Being the Showroom Brand Manager for Designer Bath and Salem Plumbing Supply, I’m privileged to work closely with our wonderful manufacturer partners as I soak up – pun intended – the latest styles and design influences to hit our industry.

Ready to dive into the latest and the greatest? Keeping scrolling for some can’t-miss trends and upcoming events that we’re hosting.

All my best,

STONE FOREST CALMA TUB

I cannot stop swooning over the Calma bathtub by Stone Forest and must pinch myself every time I walk by it on display at our Watertown showroom. A bonafide conversation-starter, this stunner is carved by hand from a monolithic block of marquina taupe marble. A slab of stone represents centuries of accumulated time and is carefully selected from a quarry in Spain.

The talented sculptors at Stone Forest utilize innovative techniques to create the Calma’s light, sensuous appearance. I love how the soft lines of this free-standing piece soothe the soul. The composition of this piece blends structural integrity with varied veining patterns and color nuances to create a scene-stealing fixture.

Available through both of our showrooms.

Graff FAUCET HARLEY COLLECTION

Oh, where to even begin with GRAFF…

I fell in love with this manufacturer while attending the Salone del Mobile trade fair in Milan last year. The brand recently debuted its Harley series – overflowing with nostalgia and style – and I’m thrilled that we now carry this collection.

No surprise here; the Harley designs were conceptualized (by GRAFF’s G+ Design Studio) with iconic motorcycles in mind. This cutting-edge line evokes vintage familiarity reimagined in a contemporary way. Every detail is deliberate and impactful, from the steering wheel-reminiscent circular valve faucet handles to the knurling texture on the surfaces. This collection is in keeping with the strong industrial influence we’re still seeing in bath and kitchen products.

Available through both of our showrooms.

SPECIALTY FINISHES

Something that I’m seeing a lot of is the use of specialty finishes in the bath and kitchen. Opting for both metals and mattes allows for a variegated and diverse style of fixtures. The most popular selections are still matte black and varieties of brass, similar to the Brizo piece in this photo.

Versatile and fresh, specialty finishes allow you to customize a bath or kitchen space to the exact tastes and needs of the user. Blending textures and colors is a great way to achieve a multi-dimensional, dynamic design.

Specialty finish products available through both of our showrooms.

KITCHEN WORKSTATIONS

If there’s one thing we know about kitchens and countertops, it’s that they tend to get cluttered and crowded very easily. With so much activity happening at the counter – prepping, cooking, entertaining, cleaning up – it’s important to maximize the space and utilize every square inch. Smart and sleek workstations by our showroom brand, The Galley, elevate the functionality, enjoyability and efficiency of the space.

I will always be a Galley gal and highly recommend the brand’s revolutionary workstations when trying to create more counter and sink space. Especially in demand by the homeowner who is eager for a time-saving way to prepare food, The Galley’s systems allow for a productive meal prep experience. We’ve entered the time of a whole new ‘home chef’ culture – one based on ease and productivity, and The Galley is very much up to the challenge. Take a peek to see these innovative solutions in action: thegalley.com/videos

Available through both of our showrooms.

Anna Orfanides’s Showroom Favorites – March 2019

A Note From Jason

Happy March!

I know that based on these recent chilly temps, it seems hard to believe, but…warm(ish) days are in the not-so-distant future. Hey, the calendar says, ‘First day of Spring – March 20th’ and who are we to argue with that?

I’ve been invited to participate in a Global Leadership Training in Cape Town, South Africa and can’t wait to bring back lots of great ideas to improve our business and customer experience. I feel so fortunate and grateful for this opportunity. Stay tuned!

Daylight Saving Time begins on the 10th day of this month and that’s always a reason to celebrate, as is St. Patrick’s Day on the 17th – when everyone around Boston seems to be Irish (wink, wink).

In the spirit of feeling lucky, we have the good fortune of being joined by our dear friend and immensely talented designer, Anna Orfanides, on our March blog. Anna, Owner and Principal Designer at Anna O Design, infuses all of her projects with a global perspective and influence. Inspired by the stunning architecture and design in which she was immersed while living in Greece and studying abroad in other parts of Europe, Anna mixes her passion for the creative spirit with her background of international travel, drawing on both as she cultivates timeless, tailored and functional spaces for her clients. Keep scrolling to see Anna’s favorite ‘sleek and chic’ bath pieces from our showroom.

Wishing you a wonderful month!

CROSSWATER PATINATO TUB

I’ve always loved Crosswater as a product and a brand. I had the privilege of meeting the company’s owner, David Hance, at a dinner hosted by Designer Bath. Hearing his story was so inspiring to me, and I appreciate his vision and his collections. I’ve been wanting to use their items on a project for awhile now and when I was in the showroom, I knew I wanted to select a couple of Crosswater items for my blog feature. The clean lines of this tub offer a modern silhouette, perfect for a sleek and cutting-edge bath space.

CROSSWATER UNION FREESTANDING TUB FILLER

This piece has a bit of an edge to it and contains such character. It’s urban-inspired and feels really fresh with the chunky piping. The knurling details give this fixture an industrial appearance.

FRANZ VIEGENER SHORELINE WIDESPREAD LAVATORY FAUCET

This is unlike anything I’ve seen before with its exaggerated low profile. I fell in love with it, especially in the matte black finish. It was so seamlessly integrated into the vignettes that are on display in the showroom.

FURNITURE GUILD FENIX COUNTERTOP

This is the epitome of sexiness. I recently used it in a client project and I’m so excited for the space to be photographed. Anyone who looks at this piece, even if you’re not into modern design, would be drawn to it. It’s impossible to not be in awe and want to experience the material and composition.

FURNITURE GUILD TOURO VANITY

With this vanity, the beauty is in the simplicity. For me, less is always more, and I gravitate towards the understated. Furniture Guild, one of my favorite brands, conveys the highest level of quality in all of its pieces. The products are well-made and feature exquisite craftsmanship from artists who take pride in what they create for people.

Eric Inman Daum’s Showroom Favorites – February 2019

A Note From Jason

Greetings, everyone!

We’ve entered the shortest month of the year, but at least the days are gradually getting longer.
I hope you all enjoyed last weekend’s football festivities. Congrats to our New England Patriots! Thank you for bringing us another championship! All of this winning is getting pretty old, huh? NOPE. We might be spoiled, but I’m not complaining.

February 14th is just around the corner and that means something exciting is on the horizon. Yes, Cupid’s arrival for Valentine’s Day, of course – as well as my son, Gunnar’s birthday. And just a couple of days after that on Saturday, February 16th, our extended Presidents’ Day Sale kicks off. Join us at our Beverly and Watertown showrooms from February 16th to February 23rd to enjoy major savings on fine fixtures and accessories for the bath and kitchen. Everything is on sale and discounts this good deserve more than just one day, they deserve an entire week. Happy shopping!

Who’s in the mood for some February faves? This month, we’re joined by our incredibly talented friend, AIA, Architect, Eric Inman Daum. Eric, a Founding President of the New England Chapter of the Institute of Classical Architecture, has been on the board of this prestigious organization since its founding in 2005. After he was a Partner at Merrimack Design, Eric achieved his dream of launching his own practice in 2017. Eric’s passion for Art History and Traditional Architecture influenced his selections as this month’s guest blogger. Follow along below as he shares his favorite pieces from our showroom; pieces that transcend form and fashion to result in a multi-sensory design experience.

Have a wonderful month and stop by to browse our Presidents’ Day Sale!

Eric Inman Daum Showroom Favorites February 2019

I came to design through my love of History and Traditional Architecture. My undergraduate training refined my Classical inclinations and graduate school opened my eyes to the subtleties and purity of Modernism which, more than 100 years after the end of the First World War, is now itself a historical style. My selections as the guest blogger for Designer Bath are items which have, for me, an authenticity. I was drawn to pieces that show a deeper understanding of historic forms though they may subtly transform our expectations and create something elegant and stylish. Good design transcends fashion, but no matter whether a piece is Historicist or Modern, it must ultimately please our visual and tactile senses.

SIGMA SERIES 620 ROMAN TUB FILLER

This is a piece that evokes the Moderne period. As an architect with Modernist training and Classical sensibilities, I am fascinated by the tension of the period when machine-age designs were still influenced by Classicism. The graceful heft of this imposing yet elegant tub filler inspired me when I first saw it. I can imagine Ginger Rogers soaking in a bubble bath as Fred Astaire dances across an Art Deco cityscape in preparation for an evening out.

KARTNERS BERLIN BATH ACCESSORIES

These lovely pieces are the distillation of the Miesian ideal. Each one is all they need to be and nothing more. Their spartan elegance recalls the finest aspirations of the International Style. Despite the simplicity of their design, they have refined proportions which are not rooted directly in history but represent the essence of the Bauhaus.

CROSSWATER FLORENZA BASIN

I feel that vessel sinks are everywhere, but this lovely little sink transcends the cliché. The cyma recta of the basin’s sides trace a beautifully-executed curve and terminate at a fine and delicate lip. Those objects we find most beautiful are the ones that seem familiar but are transformed in unexpected ways. When I first saw this lavatory, I thought “Why didn’t I think of this?” It’s two familiar ideas, a vessel sink and the shape of a classical molding, rendered in a new and surprising way that seems perfectly natural.

CROSSWATER WALDORF WALL-HUNG SINK WITH CROSSWATER WALDORF LAVATORY FAUCET

Once again, Crosswater takes the familiar and transforms it in an unexpected way. It is seemingly a very traditional wall-hung lavatory, and yet on second glance, transitions into a Modern representation of the familiar. The proportion of its length to its depth is exaggerated, creating a long and narrow basin. The integral backsplash is low and adds to the sleekness of the design. The recessed button for the overflow is a lovely jewelry-like detail. The faucet set has beautifully-proportioned hexagonal escutcheons that seem simultaneously antique and contemporary. The black lever handles provide the lustrous polished nickel fixtures with masculinity.

GROHE EUROCUBE KITCHEN FAUCET

I used this recently in a project at my client’s request. He had seen it at a showhouse in Florida and had to have it. Once I saw it, I agreed. It’s imposing and substantial, yet graceful. The form of the kitchen-sink sprayer is reduced to its essential elements, and the result is robust, elegant and cosmopolitan.

Meg Bennett & Melissa Hammond’s Showroom Favorites – January 2019

A Note From Jason

Happy New Year, everyone!

I hope your holidays were festive and bright. 2018 was gone in what felt like the blink of an eye and it’s time to say ‘hello’ to a fresh twelve months.

As we look back on the last year, we’re feeling nostalgia and gratitude – I promise, I’m not about to cry. I still have to pinch myself over the fact that we were honored with Boston magazine’s ‘Best of’ and Northshore Home‘s ‘Best of the North Shore’ awards. Neither of these accolades would have been possible without your support!

Yes, we’re in the business of baths and kitchens, but more than anything, we’re in the business of relationships and forging connections. Thank you to our family and friends, our showroom team, our clients and our industry trade partners. We are beyond grateful for your dedication, hard work, creativity and collaboration.

Our monthly ‘Showroom Favorites’ series rolls on into the new calendar year and I’m thrilled to welcome our very first guest bloggers of 2019, Melissa Hammond and Meg Bennett, Principal Designer and Design Associate, respectively, at Hammond Design. Melissa and Meg have completed projects throughout the Greater Boston area, Cape Cod, the Islands, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle, cultivating designs that are #notjustanotherprettyspace. Follow along below as they share their top five picks from our Watertown showroom and virtually create a modern luxe, space-saving bathroom ideal for urban living.

Cheers to a happy and healthy 2019!

ROHL MOD-FINO SHOWER SYSTEM

This is such a gorgeous fixture in every way. We were drawn to the clean lines and sleek aesthetic. With a very easy set-up, this system is an all-in-one unit containing a showerhead and handle all on the same bar. Ideal for tight quarters, this piece offers form and function without taking up a lot of wall space.

THG PARIS LALIQUE PROFIL CRYSTAL WIDESPREAD FAUCET

A perfect option for when you’re craving a bit of jewelry at your sink. This THG and Lalique masterpiece contains stunning detail from every angle. It has a modern yet elevated quality with the etched crystal.

CROSSWATER PATINATO TUB

This one was a no-brainer for our list because not only does it look good and boast clean lines, it conserves space with its freestanding nature. Many people may want a modern tub similar to this, yet don’t have the area needed for one. The flat back of this piece allows you to push it up against a wall to save valuable square footage.

ROBERN PROFILE SINGLE VANITY

We love how sleek and contemporary this vanity is and could imagine it being in a wide range of smaller-scale bathrooms. The detailing includes unique metal banding for an extra luxe look. A wall-mounted presence lends itself to creating a space that feels bigger and a bit more open. Robern storage options are top-notch and you can customize the inside of this one to your needs. Small vanity, big impact!

Y-SHELF NICHE SHOWER SYSTEM

We picked this for its super slick installation system. You don’t have to tile it in and you can leave it exposed and have the metal showing. This piece is available in a ton of different sizes and you can customize it to your style preference. Forget about having to deal with grout and soap scum with this one – it doesn’t get dirty and is easy to maintain. If you’re seeking generous storage in the shower area, you can’t go wrong with this Y-Shelf selection.

Jeanne Finnerty’s Showroom Favorites – December 2018

A Note From Jason

Greetings all,

I hope your holiday festivities are off to a great start – especially if you were able to scoop up some steals at our recent sale!

‘Tis very much the season to give, and in the spirit of spreading love and cheer, we’re thrilled to once again support Toys For Tots by accepting donations of brand new gifts. Books, games, dolls, teddy bears and more; we’re collecting them all! Feel free to drop off brand new presents at our Beverly (97 River Street); Watertown (604 Pleasant Street); or Gloucester (105R Maplewood Avenue) locations until December 14th.

Does endless holiday shopping have you feeling stressed? Don’t fret! There’s still time (and Designer Bath gift cards available, wink wink). I’ve recruited my sister, our Showroom Brand Manager, Mindy Sevinor, to help me share a mini gift guide with you:

Our showroom associates would be more than thrilled to help you choose the perfect present for anyone on your list.

A new month means a new blog post and we’re thrilled to welcome Jeanne Finnerty, Principal at Jeanne Finnerty Interior Design, as our December guest. While Jeanne is a frequent visitor of both of our showrooms, she selected her ‘favorites’ for this piece from our Watertown location. Follow along below as she shares her collection of picks for a modern-classic bath renovation in black and white.

Cheers to a wonderful holiday season!

Designer Bath and Salem Plumbing Supply. Jeanne Finnerty Showroom Favorites, December 2018.

LACAVA CONSOLE

The combination of the white porcelain trough and matte black metal base here is stunning. The sheer beauty of this vanity is the simplicity of the form. For a small bath, it is available in a space-saving 24” or 29″ width, making it such a versatile option. The bold legs are a striking yet quiet contrast to the delicate material and aesthetic of the basin.

JACLO FAUCET SUPPLY KIT

If ever I forget to order these…the Designer Bath team reminds me! When considering a unique finish in plumbing fixtures with an exposed-style vanity, go the distance and make a statement. These stylish cross handles bring design characteristics to the functional parts under the sink. It’s all about the details with this one.

ROHL LOMBARDIA C-SPOUT WIDESPREAD LAVATORY FAUCET

I love the attenuated proportions of the lever handles in this classic gooseneck faucet. A stepped base design adds another layer of interest without trying too hard. The faucet is strong and delicate, a nice juxtaposition to the Lacava porcelain console.

VANITY MEDICINE CABINET BY SIDLER

This narrowly proportioned LED-illuminated mirror will do big work in a small bathroom. This piece lights up on the inside and boasts amazing amenities, including: adjustable glass shelving; a convenience outlet; a magnifying mirror; AND a make-up tray. Count me in. Fabulous and functional!

CROSSWATER LONDON DUAL FLUSH TOILET

This fixture is so clean and innovative. It’s a great scale for a small bath space. The very simple form appeals to my practical side – a one-piece style that’s easy to wipe clean. The toilet seat cover which overlays the toilet seat is a nice added detail. The water-saving dual flush design makes it eco-friendly – what’s not to love? It’s an all-around attractive and sensible piece.

Gary Moffie’s Showroom Favorites – November 2018

By |2018-11-13T15:55:27-05:00November 13th, 2018|Showroom Favorites|

A Note From Jason

Greetings all and cheers to a new month!

Here’s hoping it’s a November to remember as the holiday season quickly approaches. As always, our Designer Bath and Salem Plumbing team is feeling thankful for so many things.

We’d like to extend heartfelt gratitude to everyone who voted for us for Northshore Home’s 2018 ‘Best of the North Shore’ Awards. I can’t tell you how honored we were to sweep 4/4 in the Bath and Kitchen Fixtures & Finishings categories, so thank you to the editors, readers and all who continuously support our business. We couldn’t have done it without you.

We were lucky enough to cap off the month of October by welcoming our good friend and owner of Crosswater London, David Hance, into town from across the pond. We enjoyed an intimate dinner with David and a handful of our trade colleagues, and learned more about how he started the company and his unwavering focus on quality and service

And now for something that you might just feel a bit grateful for. Sure, I may be a bit biased, but our upcoming holiday sale is one that you won’t want to miss! Beginning on Black Friday, November 23rd, and lasting through Monday, December 3rd, you’ll enjoy huge savings on fine fixtures and accessories for the bath and kitchen at both of our showrooms. Stay tuned to our social media channels for more details…

Without further ado, I’m thrilled to introduce our November guest blogger, Gary Moffie, President of The Remodeling Company. We’ve had the privilege of collaborating with Gary on a handful of projects and enjoyed his participation as a panelist in our July ‘Living Well’ discussion event. Please join me in offering a ‘congrats’ to Gary for winning a prestigious PRISM Award from the Builders and Remodelers Association of Greater Boston. Follow along below as Gary shares his favorite Universal Design-focused bath and kitchen pieces from our Beverly showroom.

Happy holiday shopping and we hope to see you at our upcoming sale!

Warm regards,

TOTO CARLYLE WASHLET ONE-PIECE TOILET

All of the items I selected from Designer Bath’s exquisite showroom are related to the themes of Universal Design and aging-in-place. I appreciate how this piece is designed to include a separate remote control that can be mounted on the wall directly next to the toilet. Some washlets have controls located right on the seat, and personally, I’ve never been drawn to that look. It’s also very programmable and can easily be customized to a user’s particular needs. You have the ability to pre-set this piece and it can function differently based on individual preference.

STEAMIST LIFT-UP TEAK SHOWER SEAT

One thing that my company has found as we do our many aging-in-place projects is that seats are very important. I like that this seat can be folded up and tucked out of the way if someone else is using the shower. The design of this particular piece is better than plastic seats due to its durability and style. The teak composition feels less bulky, offering a warm aesthetic and tone.

INFINITY DRAIN FOR ZERO-THRESHOLD SHOWER

We’ve been doing a lot of zero clearance, curbless walk-in showers in our recent projects. From a design standpoint, Infinity Drain products look stylish and blend really well with curbless showers. This is a great brand that we’ve used countless times, always with wonderful results.

BRIZO VENUTO SMARTTOUCH KITCHEN FAUCET

I absolutely love this faucet. We have clients who are living with arthritis and have limited use of their fingers. With this fixture, you’re able to touch it with any part of your hand (even with just a feather-light swipe) to activate it. When incorporating Universal Design elements into homes, we want to design and build things that can be used by people with disabilities and without, while also having pieces that look good and blend into the design. This faucet was made for that.

KARTNERS ROUND SIGNATURE GRAB BAR

The problem with grab bars is that they often tend to look very institutional. Kartners offers a vast selection of sleek bars that are reminiscent of towel bars. For a cohesive bathroom look, towel bars are available in the same finishes and styles to fit seamlessly with other bathroom accessories. This particular product features solid brass construction and a nice, heavy weight.

Kelly Healy’s Showroom Favorites – October 2018

A Note From Jason

Hello everyone,

Oh, October. You sure are pretty, even if we admit that we’re missing summer just a bit. While the temperatures are dropping, we ended September on a high note with our ‘Refresh & Renew’ panel discussion at our Watertown showroom. Thank you to all who joined us for the lively and productive chat, delicious food and drinks and enviable raffle prizes. Take a peek at some photos of the evening, courtesy of photographer, Brad Bahner.

The day of the panel was certainly an eventful one for us, as we also hosted a ‘Lunch and Learn’ workshop that afternoon. Featuring the latest and greatest from luxury faucet manufacturer, THG, the ‘Lunch and Learn’ gave our trade partners the opportunity to become acquainted with the brand’s pieces. THG’s beautiful collection can be viewed here.

As the autumn season kicks into gear, it’s the perfect time to engage in outdoor activities for causes that we’re proud to support. Our team is looking forward to cheering on participants in the upcoming Pete Frates 5K on Sunday, November 4th, 10 AM, at Beautiful Lynch Park in Beverly. Full details and race registration are here.
For October’s blog, we’re joined by Kelly Healy, the Principal Designer at Belhaakon. Within her projects, Kelly is passionate about creating spaces that translate into meaningful and authentic feelings for her clients. For her blog feature, she recently visited our Watertown showroom to choose items that evoked all kinds of feelings for her. With a Wenhem-based design firm, Kelly is a familiar face at both of our showrooms, selecting which location to use based on convenience for her clients. Also, a huge congrats goes out to her for being named one of New England Home Magazine‘s brightest rising stars and a 2018 “5 Under 40” winner. Browse Kelly’s bath and kitchen picks below!

Here’s to an October that’s full of treats for you (and maybe a few tricks here and there)!

Cheers,

GRAFF WIDESPREAD LAVATORY FAUCET

I love the surprise factor of this faucet… At first glance, it’s all about the clean, sharp modern lines. The surprise happens when you wrap your hand around the handle and feel the craft behind getting the ergonomics exactly right. It contains sleek handle tops and the perfect amount of curve at the underside of the handle (which is unseen to the eye). This faucet perfectly fits my desire to specify plumbing that does not necessarily identify to one specific aesthetic. I am inspired to use this faucet in a clean modern powder room or a more eclectic and layered master bath. The beauty of well-designed plumbing, lighting, hardware…anything, is that it opens the possibilities and freedom to think outside the box.

WETSTYLE M COLLECTION WALL MOUNTED STORAGE CABINET

Small bathrooms with no storage or surfaces are very often a challenge in city dwellings, especially when the existing conditions do not allow for recessed medicine cabinets. The Wetstyle M Collection wall-mounted storage cabinet tackles both storage and surface in one beautifully designed product. In my opinion, it can be hard to find bathroom furniture that meets the design standard or size requirements and often forces us to go the custom route (which we all know most times is the expensive route). Wetstyle does a great job of providing functional yet beautiful storage solutions that are accessible and cost effective. Big fan!

BRIZO SOLNA PULL-DOWN ARTICULATING KITCHEN FAUCET

I think we all fell in love with the industrial stainless steel, exposed coil kitchen faucet for a few reasons… 1. because of its flexibility and functional benefits and 2. because of its nostalgic and timeless charm. This Brizo Solna articulating touch kitchen faucet gives a new fresh perspective on a beloved design moment. A product that can give me a new exciting look at a classic is a product I can’t wait to use!

AXOR SHOWERPIPE SYSTEM

When walking through the Watertown showroom, I turned a corner and found an entire wall of exposed plumbing shower systems, which was very exciting to me!! Having that many options for a shower, that can be installed outdoors in the warmer months and easily disconnected and brought inside for the colder (more like frigid) months, is genius!! This Axor Showerpipe System really stood out as feeling unique and interesting without crossing that “trendy” line. The design has the right mixture of modern and classic to fit as a fun and beautiful addition to any home, indoors or out.

LACAVA AQUAGRANDE SINK COSOLE

This sink console by Lacava is one of the simplest and most minimal pieces in the showroom. Despite its simplicity in form and materials, it catches your eye and keeps your attention due to the attention to detail, beautiful finish and airy feel. This console is also very versatile (hmm…there may be a theme developing here?). It could be effortlessly timeless in a menswear inspired powder room. Or the sparkling jewel in a glamorous Beacon Hill Pied-a-terre. The beautiful finish options available allow this console to be extremely versatile and without a doubt stand the test of time.

Erin Gates’ Showroom Favorites – September 2018

By |2018-09-07T12:46:53-04:00September 7th, 2018|Showroom Favorites|

A Note From Jason

Greetings, everyone!

As we cling to the last few days of sweet summertime, it’s hard to believe that a new season is just around the corner. Over here at Designer Bath, we bid adieu to August with a fun event and will welcome September with one as well.

Last month, we enjoyed a hands-on educational workshop at our Watertown showroom with our friends at Infinity Drain. We lunched, and then we learned about the brand’s linear and trench drainage systems. Thanks to our colleagues who attended.

To say ‘hello’ to autumn, we’re doing one of our favorite things – hosting a panel discussion! You’re invited to join us and our partners, The Boston Globe Magazine and luxury faucet manufacturer, THG, at 604 Pleasant Street in Watertown on Tuesday, September 25th, from 5:30 – 8 PM, for ‘Refresh & Renew: Simple Ways to Update Your Home.’

Led by moderator, Veronica Chao, Editor of The Boston Globe Magazine, the chat will feature local design experts: Erin Gates, Principal of Erin Gates Design; Barbara Elza Hirsch, Principal of Elza B. Design, Inc.; and Mindy Sevinor, our very own Showroom Brand Manager, at Designer Bath. Our trio of panelists will share tips on updating your home with minor décor changes. Guests will enjoy refreshments & hors d’oeuvres. This is a free and 21+ event, and space is limited. Reserve your spot now!

And on that note, it’s my pleasure to introduce our guest blogger for this month… drum roll, please… Erin Gates! We had a blast with the designer, blogger and best-selling author as she strolled through our Watertown showroom to select her favorite pieces. Keep scrolling to see the bath and kitchen goodies that made Erin’s final list.

Happy September and we hope to see you at our event.

Designer Bath showroom favorites, September 2018.

CROSSWATER LONDON BALTHAZAR TUB

This sleek Crosswater tub (with the swoon-worthy polished stainless steel exterior!) is the perfect combination of vintage with a modern twist. The piece just has a certain sparkle that would make it an ideal fit for a farmhouse bathroom but it could work equally well in a modern dwelling. It’s also a soaking tub that looks as though it could be over three times the price.

SIGMA SERIES KITCHEN FAUCET & SPRAY

This faucet has a gorgeous, unique blend of contemporary and transitional styles. The side spray has a great weight to it when you hold it in your hand – it feels very luxe. I also like the curve of the faucet.

THE FURNITURE GUILD WINSTON VANITY

I recently put this vanity in a home in New York for one of my clients because I love how it looks like an actual piece of furniture. It’s customizable so you can tailor it to work with any décor taste; my favorite finish is the French Walnut with Burnished Brass.

CROSSWATER LONDON THERMOSTATIC EXPOSED SHOWER FAUCET

This faucet has a very clean, yet beautiful, design that could translate well in various settings and aesthetics. I love the large shower head and handles.

LISA JARVIS ROBIN TOGGLE PULL

The toggle pull is just calling out for a chic vanity in a master bath or powder room to accompany it. If you are going for a high-end, upscale bathroom design, I can’t recommend this pretty pull enough.

A Note From Jason

Happy August, everyone!

As Ella Fitzgerald famously penned – “Summertime and the living is easy.” We were living easy and well at last month’s event with New England Home. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our ‘Living Well: How to Hit Your Personal Stride with Home Design, Style & Wellness’ panel discussion. Enjoy some photos from the evening here.

Along with endless days and nights, August is a time for anniversaries and AMAZING deals. Not only does this month mark our 73rd year in business, we’re also celebrating the one-year anniversary of our Watertown showroom. And now for those ‘amazing deals’…

We’re offering TAX-FREE SAVINGS now through August, 11th. Yep, you heard that right. Shop both of our  showrooms through Saturday, August 11th, and receive a discount of 6.25% equal to the sales tax! If the state holds an official tax-free weekend, you’ll save the sales tax of 6.25% with a total savings of 12.5% on your order. We’re taking pre-orders now and will process your order on August 11th.

Because rules are rules – some disclaimers to be aware of: *Offer applies to new orders only and cannot be combined with any other offers. Cannot be used on previous purchases. State of MA sales tax holiday rules and regulations apply.

It’s my pleasure to introduce our August guest blogger, Molly Pidgeon, Principal of House of Dietrich, a residential and commercial design, construction and project management company. Molly’s love of design was cultivated from traveling and her fondness for architecture and nature. Take a peek at her bath and kitchen favorites below.

DORNBRACHT AIR SWITCH

I’ve sometimes found that switching devices can be cumbersome, especially when building code requires that you put in supplemental devices that you don’t actually use. I love the simplicity of having an air switch on the counter as opposed to under the sink or on the black splash. What a great way to simplify the form and function of a kitchen. Well done, Dornbracht!

NEELNOX MOSAICS Y SHELF SERIES

The chrome finish of the Y Shelf Series pieces are sexy, and the floating shelf option itself is interesting. I haven’t really seen anyone translate the floating shelf into bathrooms yet. I like the contemporary lines of a floater because they provide a fresh, smart look while still being minimalist and clean. Don’t be confused by the backsplash on this version – there are multiple color and style options available.

HUDSON VALLEY BAIRD 4-LIGHT BATH SCONCE

As someone who is admittedly always drawn to the ‘glam girl’ vibe, I can’t get enough of the updated Hollywood style of this piece. The four-bulb sconce is reminiscent of vintage marquee signs or panel lights on a dressing room mirror. Trés chic and classic.

THG PARIS FAUBOURG FAUCET

I’m such a fan of the black and white accents against the chrome finish on this THG fixture. This faucet has a luxe, designer quality to it. I feel like it could easily say: ‘Chanel’ – swoon. I can envision this in a lot of different settings; a powder room, a nice master bath, it has endless versatility.

PERRIN & ROWE WOODEN TOILET SEAT

This one is all about nostalgia for me. I grew up in a house with wooden toilet seats and I love them. The rich, mahogany tone of this Perrin and Rowe option is so warm and inviting. As a designer, I’m always drawn to natural tones because they add such character to a space.
